The Dingxiang flange industry continues to thrive, with four new flagship brands setting the industry’s direction.

People's Daily, Xinzhou, August 23 (Reporter Jiao Bowen) — On the 23rd, the China Forging and Pressing Industry High-end Equipment Components Process Technology Promotion Conference and the 2nd Dingxiang Flange Specialized Town High-quality Development Conference were held in Dingxiang County, Xinzhou City, Shanxi Province.
At the meeting, the French National Standard Sample Demonstration Center, the Shanxi Provincial Digital Transformation Promotion Center, the French Industry Data Development Experimental Station, and the French Industry College of Taiyuan University of Science and Technology—affiliated with Shanxi’s undergraduate universities—were officially unveiled in Dingxiang.
A flange, also known as a flange plate, is a component used to connect pipes to one another. It is widely employed in fields such as mechanical equipment, wind power generation, and the petrochemical industry.
Dingxiang County is renowned for flange forging; it is Asia’s largest flange production base and the world’s largest flange export base. In 2022, “Dingxiang Flanges” were included in Shanxi Province’s first batch of ten key provincial-level specialized towns.
Last year, Dingxiang County’s flange forging industry performed strongly, achieving a total industrial output value of 15.5 billion yuan, up 10.7% year-on-year; and generating operating revenue of 15.3 billion yuan, an increase of 10.1% over the previous year. These two key indicators recorded their highest growth rates in nearly three years. Flange products were exported to more than 40 countries and regions, with total exports reaching 1.54 billion yuan, up 27.9% year-on-year.
At the meeting, Zhao Yajing, Secretary of the Dingxiang County Party Committee, stated that the county is taking the development of the “Dingxiang Flange” specialized town as a key driver and has formulated a “12356” development strategy. The county has also prepared a Three-Year Action Plan for the High-Quality Development of the Dingxiang Flange Specialized Town. Through an innovative model—combining “a forging industry service base with a provincial-university cooperation base”—the county’s flange forging industry is accelerating its transformation from individual links to integrated chains, from chains to clusters, and from clusters to a powerful industrial ecosystem.
Currently, the specialized town for flange manufacturing in Dingxiang is beginning to show promising results. The functionality of its productive service platform, public testing platform, and standardization system platform is steadily improving. The industrial scale continues to expand, and foreign trade exports are experiencing robust growth. A green-service window has been established within the county to streamline the approval process for flange forging enterprises. The time limit for enterprise registration commitments has been reduced to just two hours, enabling a “single-application form, single-procedure, one-day completion, and zero cost” approach.
From “a blacksmith with a bushel of sesame seeds” to “China’s Hometown of Forging,” and from small workshops to a modern industrial cluster, Dingxiang has developed unique advantages in the forging industry.
Zhang Xiaolei, a member of the Party Leadership Group and Deputy Director of the Shanxi Provincial Department of Industry and Information Technology, stated that Dingxiang Flange Specialized Town holds an important position in Shanxi’s equipment manufacturing industry. In the next step, through policy support such as technological transformation funds, special funds for the digital economy, and incentives for specialized towns along industrial chains, Dingxiang Flange Forging will be encouraged to focus on “high-endization,” “intelligentization,” and “green development,” thereby promoting coordinated development between the specialized town and the broader industrial chain.
At the meeting, Dingxiang County signed 14 cooperation framework agreements across six areas with relevant enterprises and universities.
